Hi, I am Chris.

Making things that never existed before, since 1986.

Filmmaker • Musician • Producer • Writer • MPLS

Chris Strouth is a Minneapolis-based composer, producer, filmmaker, and writer whose work has shaped the Twin Cities arts scene for four decades.

The founder and bandleader of the postmodern ensemble Paris1919, Strouth’s music occupies what DJ and electronic musician Kid Koala describes as “the perfectly focused space between tranquility and chaos” — cinematic, immersive, and stubbornly resistant to genre.
His roots run through the punk art collective around Rifle Sport Gallery, Hair Police, Twin/Tone , Innova , and currently Stand Up! Records labels
through the electronica collective Future Perfect Sound System in the 90s and 2000s, and through a remarkable body of large-scale multimedia work that has placed orchestras on Mississippi River barges, transformed art galleries into polar ice environments, and scored silent films from Méliès to Hitchcock to Dreyer.

Paris 1919’s most recent release, Future Archaeology (2022), was mastered by Chuck Zwicky and features photography by Bradley Hansen. A new live score for Carl Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc is currently in post-production. Strouth also writes for Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current and produces for Stand Up! Records.
